The R for Data Science workshop series is a four part course, designed for novices in R. Day 1 (basics of R). Students will understand the motivation behind object orientation, and how that relates to computation. Students will be able to perform basic functions in R necessary to use the software on their computers and conduct basic arithmetic.

This workshop will introduce geocoding - the process of determining the geographic coordinates for place names, zip codes or addresses. The first part of this workshop will be an introduction to the process of geocoding and strategies for achieving good results. This process will be demonstrated using the R ggmap package, which calls the Google Geocoding service.
Wordpress is an easy-to-use and powerful web hosting platform. Its "famous" 5-minute installation procedure really can be done in 5 minutes, and installing an attractive theme and uploading simple content doesn't take much longer. Once that's done, the possibilities are endless; we'll look at some of the plug-ins that can help you display and publicize your research data.
This workshop will introduce the fundamentals of grant proposal writing. The presentation will provide an overview of the process of developing an NIH Research Grant (R series), though other grant mechanisms will be mentioned as well. In addition, the workshop will also introduce the grant submission process and grant review. No previous knowledge is assumed.

This workshop will be a dive into programming and data analysis in Python. We will cover functions, modules, plotting, and regression, and review the basic tools of Python. By the end, you will have some practice with Python and other resources to further your research.
Coding is done, now what? You’ve finished coding your qualitative data and now it’s time to start the “analysis” process. Where do you start? Through this interactive workshop session, qualitative researchers will learn several approaches to transition from coding to analysis.
