Location:
Barrows 356: D-Lab Convening Room
Description
Type:

This workshop will cover theory and techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of figures used for visualizing information. Rather than teaching any particular visualization software, this course will teach students about the "nuts and bolts" of effective data visualization.

The influences of evolving technology, including the increased availability of tools for interactive, web-based visualizations, will be discussed. Dr. Samuel will demonstrate the visualization of data using a wide range of examples, providing knowledge of best practices for designing figures for varying purposes for varying audiences-- e.g. presentation versus publication; public versus scientific.

Prior knowledge: No prior knowledge is required. Attend this workshop if you have any interest in learning fundamental principles of data visualization.
