This session introduces qualitative research, and is recommended for folks who are new to research in general or to qualitative research in particular. The agenda will be as follows:

D-Lab Welcome (5 mins)

Intro of Facilitator & Participants (5 mins)

Primer on Qualitative Research (90 mins)

   Basic Concepts & Processes

   Theories & Frameworks

   Methodologies & Methods

   Coding & Analysis (brief, not focus)

   Qualitative Data Analysis (QDA) Software (brief, not focus)

   UC Berkeley Resources & Reading Recommendations

Wrap-Up & Evals (10 mins)

Folks who are NOT new to qual research, do NOT need a refresher on qual research basics, and want to focus primarily on creating and applying a coding scheme, as well as engaging in analysis, should sign up only for the workshop titled Introduction to Qualitative Research Coding, offerred immediately after this workshop (i.e., from 3-5 p.m. on same day).
