This workshop will introduce address geocoding - the process of determining the geographic coordinates for a place names, zip codes and street address. The first part of this workshop will be an introduction to the process of geocoding and ways to fine tune the output. We will then introduce and practice using a few of the online tools for geocoding including Google MyMap and ArcGIS Online. We will also discuss approaches for scaling up to millions of addresses using ArcGIS Desktop. The second part of the workshop will demonstrate geocoding programmatically in R using the ArcGIS World Geocoding Service.

Knowledge Requirement: No prior knowledge is assumed for this workshop.

Technology Requirement: Participants should bring a laptop with to follow along with the online geocoding exercises. A laptop with R/Rstudio installed is required to follow along with the R geocoding exercises. Some of the exercises will require an active calnet ID.
