When & Where
Date:
Fri, March 7, 2014 - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location:
D-Lab Convening Room (356 Barrows)
Description
Type:

This 2-hour workshop is for social and behavioral scientists who want to gain access to and use Twitter data in their research. The first hour is geared towards researchers that do not have extensive knowledge of how Twitter tweets may be turned into an empirical source. Sebastian Benthall will discuss how Twitter data can be incorporated into a variety of research designs to measure sentiment, map trends, and visualize fields.

The second hour of the workshop is aimed at researchers who want to gain access to historical or large Twitter datasets for their own research projects. Sebastian and Cyrus Dioun will help you write and submit a 500-word Twitter Data Grant before the upcoming deadline (March 15th), and explain how to collaborate with the D-Lab and other support on campus.

This workshop will be the first of a series of workshops that serve as an “on-ramp” for scholars hoping to use Twitter data in their research. Later this semester Sebastian and Cyrus will teach students to access the Twitter API (Application Programming Interface), highlighting the kinds of data you can get for free.
