THIS WORKSHOP IS FULL!

This four day R Intensive will provide an introduction to R.

Day 1: R for Beginners with Clara Cohen

You will learn the core properties of the R programming language through step-by-step examples and scaffolded exercises with data provided by the instructor. At the end of the workshop you will be able to import, analyze, manipulate, and save data sets, and create simple plots of the data. No previous programming experience is assumed, but you should come with R already installed on their computers (available here: http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/).

Day 2: Exploratory plotting and data analysis in R with Clara Cohen

This session assumes a basic familiarity with R, specifically with respect to adding columns and subsetting dataframes. In this workshop we will cover the following topics: 1) summarizing patterns of data in dataframes; 2) basic plotting of data; and 3) techniques for how to create professional-looking plots to illustrate data patterns. If time permits, we will also cover simple statistical tests, such as t-tests, chi-square tests, anova, and simple regression.

Day 3: Useful Stuff in R with Chris Krogslund

This session will introduce participants to the basics of data manipulation (notably using plyr and reshape2), regression, and regression diagnostics. The workshop will also briefly cover packages for data visualization (including lattice and ggplot2), matching, and data imputation.

Day 4: R Graphics with Chris Krogslund

This 2-hour session will provide a comprehensive overview of graphics in R. Participants will learn how to construct, customize, and export a variety of plot types using base graphics, lattice, and ggplot2.

There will be an additional session on R Markdown with Dillon Niederhut from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. You can read about it here.
