UPDATE: Please see the course website here. Materials for the site are in a GitHub repository.

Our goal is to help scientists and engineers become more productive by teaching them basic computing skills like:

  • Automating repetetive tasks
  • Program design
  • Testing
  • Version control
  • Terminal usage

In this two-day boot camp, short tutorials will alternate with hands-on practical exercises. Participants will be encouraged both to help one another, and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems during and between sessions. Attendees are offered online office hours: regular events to get one-on-one help from Software Carpentry instructors, online (in addition to the usual offerings at the D-Lab).

The course is aimed at graduate students and other scientists who are familiar with basic programming concepts (like loops, conditionals, arrays, and functions) but need help to translate this knowledge into practical tools to help them work more productively. For more information, read about the Software Carpentry Python curriculum, or visit the main Software Carpentry page.

Demand for our python offerings is usually quite high, so please only sign up if you are going to attend!
