This workshop will offer a gentle introduction to the Python programming language and the popular NLTK (Natural Language Toolkit) package that includes useful tools for literary study. Together we will explore tools that Prof. Emily Thornbury discusses at her presentation to the Literature + Digital Humanities Working Group on poetry and poets in Anglo-Saxon England, entitled “Stop Having Ideas and Start Counting Things: Or, Some Ad-hoc Approaches to Quantifying Style.”
