This workshop will be a dive into programming in Python. We will cover types, functions, lists, loops, dictionaries, and conditionals. By the end, you will have some practice with Python and other resources to further your learning. This workshop expects a little previous exposure to Python -- please see the recommended links in the requirements if you are new to Python.

Required: You will need to download and install Python and a plaintext editor on your system. (Either Python 2 or 3 is ok)

Python installation:

  • If you are on a Mac, you already have Python. Try opening the Terminal application and see if "python" or "python3" take you to a command prompt with 3 brackets ">>>"
  • If you are on Windows, pleaseinstall Python here (I recommend Python 3.5, Windows x86 web-based installer)

Plaintext editor installation: Sublime Text is the recommended plaintext editor
