When & Where
Date:
Mon, October 19, 2015 - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Location:
Convening Room
Description
Type:

This workshop is geared towards social science and digital humanities researchers who have data - scanned images, maps, and spreadsheets, for example, that they want to display on a map. We will discuss and demonstrate how to:

  • Import data to CartoDB from a csv or excel file or from an online resource, like a google sheet
  • Add an image or scanned map as a custom basemap, eg from NYPL or from your Mapbox account
  • Map a file of points that contains the name and URL of photos that will display on-click. Photo data may be online, eg, wikimedia commons), Google Streetmap view, or in the user's dropbox account.
  • Create a map with no basemap (and why we would want to do that)
  • Create new data by drawing (or digitizing) points, lines and polygons on a map
  • How to create a time slider for data with "year" or other date values
  • How you might create a flow map and display it in cartodb.

No prior experience required. To follow along,  bring your laptop and use this URL to sign-up for a CartoDB academic account before the workshop.
