This workshop provides an introduction of historical research cases and ethical principles, and a discussion of federal regulations overseeing human subjects research. The session emphasizes the role of consent in research and investigator responsibilities. The second half provides a focus on online research issues such as use of online survey tools, internet user expectation of privacy, online recruitment, screening out minors, waiving documentation of consent, and confidentiality limitations.
