This workshop provides an introduction of historical research cases and ethical principles, and a discussion of federal regulations overseeing human subjects research. The session also emphasizes the role of consent in research and investigator responsibilities. This workshop provides a focus on issues specific to internet research such as data security, use of online survey tools, internet user expectation of privacy, online recruitment, screening out minors, waiving documentation of consent, and confidentiality limitations.
This is part one of a three-part series. It would be most beneficial if participants attend all three sessions as they will build on one another. Topics covered in part one will not be re-iterated in IRB Review Process (part two) or eProtocol Submissions & Common Problems (part three).
