Note to preview participants:

This is an initial, internal preview of a module that is part of the Digital Health project through the Berkeley Changemaker Grant. We will go through the full module outlined below, but will also be soliciting live feedback at the end. As the goal of the module is to introduce concepts outlined in the Digital Health Social Justice Toolkit, we will ask feedback revolving around content, clarity, and applicability of the toolkit. In addition, we’ll be looking for feedback on overall workshop structure, content, applicability, and engagement. The Digital Health team thanks you in advance for attending the workshop and helping us improve upon it to bring it to the wider UC Berkeley community.

Developing Ethical Frameworks for Digital Health

The module aims to introduce participants to working with sensitive digital health research data. After discussing principles in these topics using the Digital Health Social Justice Toolkit as a basis, participants will discuss various case studies to discuss ethical questions and working with sensitive research data. For example, what kind of risks will my participants face if their data is re-identified? Will data breaches affect some participants more than others? What are the rights of research participants when it comes to data collection? We will also encourage them to look at the data collection process from the perspective of a participant versus a researcher. Students will report back their findings and the session with close on a discussion revolving around broader implications of ethical research.
