This workshop will focus on how to create publication-ready graphs using Stata. We will begin with a short demo of how to create standard graphs in Stata, and continue on to more high-quality formats for greater legibility and a more polished display. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an understanding of Stata’s graphing capabilities and how to format various elements of graphs for presentation and publication. A fully annotated do-file will be made available during the workshop for reference.

  • Quick recap of basic graphing features in Stata
  • Different graph types
  • Combining graphs and graphing by categories
  • Adding markers and labels
  • Formatting graph and axes titles
  • Formatting legends
  • Formatting axes (scales, tick marks, grids etc.)
  • Exporting graphs
  • Quick overview of schemes 

Prior knowledge: A basic knowledge of Stata is helpful, but not required

Technology requirement: You do not need to bring your own computer as this workshop will be held in a computer lab with access to Stata. If you do bring your own computer, you can install a trial version of Stata, but please arrive 15 minutes early.
