This workshop will introduce methods and libraries for mapping spatial data in R. We will briefly cover some of the basics of spatial data types and methods for importing spatial data.  Participants will learn how to plot points and polygons on a map, change symbology, and add reference data like Google Maps and OpenStreetMaps. Prior experience working with spatial data in R is helpful but not required. Students should have basic R experience and have some familiarity with plotting in R using ggplot2.

Students should bring a laptop to the workshop with R installed. RStudio is also highly recommended. To follow along with the tutorial please have the following R packages installed: maps, maptools, ggplot2, rgdal, sp, dplyr, tidyr, scales, RColorBrewer, and classInt.

Please note the location: 124 Mulford Hall
