The microblogging platform Twitter has become a popular tool both for the analysis of social data (relationship networks, information transmission, linguistic changes) and creating conversations around social issues. This workshop will teach participants about what kinds of analyses can be performed on data from Twitter, how to interact with Twitter's API, and, ultimately, how to construct an automated information getting/posting machine called a 'bot'.

Python 2.7 or newer

IPython notebook 3.0 or newer

TwitterAPI for Python

Please have these installed and configured, or plan to arrive early to install these on site
