Location:
Barrows 356: D-Lab Convening Room
Description
Type:

In this process-oriented talk, Dr. Sacks will walk us through the ethical, logistical, conceptual, and methodological challenges related to investigating the impact of historical trauma and contemporary trauma on experiences of one research participant connected to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. Dr. Sacks will also walk us through the use of the one descendant to motivate and situate an upcoming study in which she will explore the issues of inter-generational trauma and trust among other descendants.

This talk explores the use of qualitative methods to develop new analytical perspectives on experiences of historic and contemporary trauma in that qualitative methods reflect a particular ontological point of view, which tends toward privileging the experiences of groups that are often marginalized in research.
