Join the Qualtiative Methods Group for a conversation with Dr. Erin Kerrison about using mixed-methods to collect data about hard-to-reach populations.
It is often the case that qualitative data collection (participant observation, in-depth interviewing, etc.) for hard to reach, vulnerable populations proves difficult. Beginning with information gleaned from quantitative sources (surveys, administrative datasets, etc), however, can serve as good place to start. In this workshop, participants will explore how for a drug-involved cohort of former prisoners, data collection analyses relied on official administrative data, both to locate a subsample of study participants for interviewing, and to construct an interview protocol that could meaningfully address the questions raised by the quantitative sources.
