This workshop will cover how to add geographic coordinates to address data. This is useful for creating maps, linking to other geospatial data, or finding distances between points. We will use two open source geocoders: Photon and The Data Science Toolkit. Participants will learn how to make API calls, how to parse the data, and how to map the results.
Topics discussed will include: planning a geocoding project, options and tradeoffs in selecting a tool, evaluating results, and what to do with bad data.
We will use Python and the command line. Please install IPython and pandas. Windows users should also install cURL.
