Ariel H. Bierbaum, MCP is a fourth year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley. Ariel’s research interests include urban policy, racial inequality, and public education. Her dissertation examines the relationships between Philadelphia's public school closures, neighborhood change, and broader patterns of metropolitan inequality. She is currently an Adjunct Faculty member in the Architecture and Community Design Program at the University of San Francisco and a Visiting Scholar in the Urban Studies Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Ariel has worked over 15 years in the fields of community art, community development, and public policy, and served as Program Director at the UC-Berkeley Center for Cities + Schools from 2006 through 2011.
