Job duties:

The D-Lab UTech Team is the front line support for D-Lab, and is often people’s first (and lasting) impression of D-Lab.  You will:

  1. Run the D-Lab help desk, aka “the Front Desk”. This looks like:  Staff the desk and collaborate with the rest of the team to ensure adequate staffing Mon-Fri 9am-5pm.  Respond to and triage walk-in questions.  Refer users to D-Lab staff or resources when needed.  Assist D-Lab staff as a computer/ IT resource.  Provide tech orientation / training to new staff.
  2. Provide daily support for the 30-40 trainings and workshops D-Lab runs every semester.  This looks like: Maintain tracking of and communications about daily events, e.g. print lists, attendance data entry, feedback data entry, maintain signage, manage content on website, manage campus calendars and social media.
  3. Manage the use and functionality of labs and meeting rooms.  This looks like: maintain and track hardware and software, maintain and clean physical space, and manage crowds.
  4. Support workshop instructors and students.  This looks like:  photocopy and print instructional materials, provide Audio/Visual support, and do lots of customer service.
  5. Carry out other such duties as may be assigned or requested.
  6. Senior UTech staff members may also serve as tech consultants for clients seeking help in IT or programming, and work with D-Lab senior staff on research projects.

Qualifications:

  • Resourceful, responsible, responsive attitude.
  • Exemplary ability to collaborate and work in a team.
  • Good follow-through and commitment to completing assignments.
  • Ability to consult or troubleshoot computer / IT issues (MacOS or Windows or Linux), in any of the following: software installation, set-up, connecting to other devices (monitors, projectors, scanners, printers, audio), Audio-Visual, viruses, malware, security, hardware failures, software errors, or networking.
  • Available to work 10-15 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm. (No after hours or weekend work.)
  • Work-study funding is required.

Plusses for:

  • Programming experience, including Python, R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, Geocoding, Atlas.ti, QDA, PHP, Drupal, MySQL, Text Analysis or other.
  • Experience using Amazon AWS (or other cloud providers)
  • Communications experience, including social media, in a professional setting.
