R Boot Camp

This will contain a longer description of the Bootcamp - format, content, goals, etc... formated more nicely

• Day 1 morning (learning R)
– basics of R, with Rstudio
* R as a calculator
* some basic functions
* objects in R and basic vectors/dataframes
* basic graphics

– working in R
* reading/writing data
* more advanced object types
* apply/vectorized operations
* loops, if-else
* string operations
Day 1 afternoon (programming and real-world work)
- writing your own functions
* function arguments
* basic scoping and environments
– R packages
– doing useful stuff
* summarizing data
* regression
* optimization
* more advanced graphics including lattice/ggplot2
Day 2 morning (using what we’ve learned)
-practice with the tools from Day 1
– more advanced coding
* debugging
* OOP (S3, S4, ReferenceClasses)
* computing on the language (using R to write and evaluate R code)
– R in batch mode and command line mode
– working w/ databases and more on reading/writing
Day 2 afternoon (more advanced topics)
basic parallel processing using foreach and parApply
– inspecting and making packages; namespaces
